What are domains? #
Domains are like the names and addresses for websites on the internet. Instead of remembering complicated numbers, we use words like www.abcproductions.com to find and visit websites easily.
Which domains can I add to Cue Manager? #
Only domains that you own. Specifically, you should add email domain(s) that your company owns and operates.
Domains that you do not own, such as gmail.com will fail verification and should not be added.
Why add my domains to Cue Manager? #
Adding your domains to Cue Manager allows us to verify that you own them so that your Cue Manager administrators can edit account info of users that share your company’s verified domain name. For example, if your company domain name is abcproductions.com and you have a user named Bob with an email address of bob@abcproductions.com, you would be able to edit Bob’s Cue Manager account info if you add abcproductions.com and it is successfully verified. This makes it possible for your admins to maintain your employee accounts, should their information ever change.
Domain Verification Process #
The verification process is quite simple but will require your domain administrator to add a TXT record to your DNS records. The process for each DNS provider is slightly different but fundamentally the same, and your DNS provider should be more than happy to help you add this record if you need assistance.
To verify your domain, follow these steps:
- Go to Cue Manager > Setup > Domains and click the Add button in the upper right
- Enter your domain name (this must match everything after the @ in your email addresses and be a domain you own)
- Click the Add button to generate verification data
- Using the generated verification data, copy the domain name field to the domain/host field in a new TXT record in your DNS provider’s DNS records
- Using the generated verification data, copy the content value field to the content/value field in the same TXT record in your DNS provider’s DNS records
- Click the Verify button under the generated verification data
IMPORTANT: Do not remove the TXT record from your DNS provider after the domain has been verified. We will periodically re-verify your domain for security purposes. If you remove the TXT record, verification will fail and you will lose all benefits of a verified domain. Should you delete the TXT record by accident, you can re-add it with the original generated verification data from above. Simply go to Cue Manager > Setup > Domains and click on the corresponding domain name in the list, then follow steps 4 through 6 as seen above.
Why the need to verify domains? #
Security and peace of mind. Due to the highly collaborative nature of Cue Manager, domain verification ensures that only people who should have access to modify an account, have access.
TXT Values Longer Than 255 Characters #
The Cue Manager domain verification string is longer than 255 characters.
While many DNS providers support this natively, some DNS providers require you to split TXT record values into multiple strings of 255 characters or less.
If your DNS provider requires multiple strings, Cue Manager has a Copy as Multi-String link under the Content Value box for you to use. This link will copy the value to your clipboard as "string1" "string2"
so you can separate them out when you enter them in your DNS TXT record.
Please note that if your DNS provider does require multiple strings, the separated strings need to be applied to the same DNS TXT record, not separate records.
